You'll have to take a short ride to visit this retired lightship, now part of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum. The Portsmouth National Historic Landmark was commissioned in 1915 and patrolled the Hampton Roads and Chesapeake Bays until the mid 1960s. Today, you can hop aboard and explore the deck and cabins of this old U.S. Lightship, now a popular Norfolk museum outfitted with historical photos, documents and artifacts.
